The journey to bring Math and Science subjects in English closer to every Vietnamese student
Wesley Academy’s journey began with a teacher who always believed that quality education must be for everyone, not just for a small, privileged group. Before Wesley existed, there was a young teacher who graduated in Mathematics pedagogy, wondering how to help students understand the nature of Mathematics in a clearer, more logical and interesting way?
During many years of teaching in a general education environment, she realized that students could solve problems very quickly, do well on tests, but when asked “Why?”, most of them just kept silent or repeated the formula. That urged her to find a new method, an approach that helps students understand instead of rote learning, think instead of memorizing.
And it was when she came into contact with international Math documents that she realized that teaching Math in English was not just about teaching bilingualism, but about teaching modern thinking, a type of thinking that requires students to explain, analyze, ask questions and present clearly as what is happening in advanced classrooms around the world.
From a traditional Math teacher to the journey of mastering Math in English
Not coming from an English background, she understood the feeling of starting from zero. She taught herself how to use terminology, learned foreign teaching methods, and then experimented with groups of students. The late nights spent looking up each Math question, each way of teaching, each illustrative example gradually created the first foundation.
That effort not only helped her master the method but also opened a big turning point when she received a master’s scholarship and had the opportunity to access systematic international training programs, where teaching not only revolved around knowledge but also involved thinking, skills and methods.
After graduating from graduate school, she continued to teach at many different schools and centers, from international – bilingual environments to general classes, where she clearly observed the differences in learning styles of each group of students.
In an international environment, students are exposed to a program full of thinking and experience. In a general environment, many students yearn to learn like that but do not have the opportunity. And even many teachers want to learn how to teach Math in English, just like she did.
It was those experiences that laid the foundation for a consistent ideal: Math in English is not a privilege, it is a modern learning method that every student has the right to access.
The Birth of Wesley Academy: International Quality at an Affordable Cost
A Different Beginning: Math and Science in English
Wesley Academy was created from that story. It was not founded to teach pure English. Instead, Wesley became a training center for Math and Science in English. The goal was to offer international-quality learning at an affordable cost. Any student who loves Math or wants a modern learning approach can join. This core value was clear from the beginning.
1. English Is a Tool, Not a Barrier
At Wesley, students do not learn Math in English just to “use English”. They learn to understand the nature of each problem, not memorize it. They learn to explain solutions logically. They think critically through analysis and comparison. They also communicate academically like in foreign classrooms. Every lesson encourages students to find answers on their own. This builds long-term thinking. It prepares them for advanced programs such as IB, AP, A-level, IGCSE, and STEM.
2. Quality Education Should Be Accessible to Everyone
The founder once faced a difficult self-study journey. International materials were expensive and instructors were rare. Because of that, Wesley was built with reasonable tuition. The curriculum is optimized to reduce costs. The learning path is scientific so students progress without waste. Wesley believes that international learning methods should not be limited to international or bilingual schools. With proper guidance, students from any background can succeed.
3. A Place Where Both Students and Teachers Grow
Wesley has a special feature. Not only students learn Math in English. Vietnamese teachers also come to study specialized teaching methods. They learn academic terminology in English. This was something the founder once wished for. Wesley is now a place where students develop mathematical thinking and academic English. Teachers improve their teaching skills. Parents who want an international direction for their children finally have a proper starting point. Wesley focuses on teaching and building an educational community.
Expanding from Math to a Modern Academic Ecosystem
Math is Wesley’s core. Once students think well in English, other subjects become easier. For that reason, Wesley expands to Science subjects in English. New subjects are added based on real student needs. They are never added because of trends. Every subject follows one philosophy: lead thinking, support English, expand knowledge. Wesley aims to build an ecosystem where students learn with advanced methods. Teachers grow professionally. Parents access quality education without financial stress.
Wesley Academy’s Mission for Vietnamese Students
Wesley was created with one desire. Vietnamese students should learn with advanced methods. Teachers should have a space to develop English-based teaching. Parents should access quality education without high costs. There should be no gap between international and public school students. There should be no barrier between strong English users and beginners. Vietnamese children deserve access to modern learning. Wesley Academy exists to remove those barriers. Every child who loves Math should reach advanced knowledge. Every parent should choose quality education confidently. Every teacher should continue improving. Wesley Academy brings international thinking closer to Vietnamese students.
